God isn't bland. The Church shouldn't be, either.

Dear Creative Missions Contemplator,

Let me tell you why I signed up to go on the Creative Missions trip to Albany, in May.

Five years in the making

My story goes back to September 2006. My new best friend Nate had just come on staff. He was planning on starting a new church in Kansas City but ran into a roadblock in fundraising, so we hired him to do video. I tried desperately to teach him that church planting doesn’t work. They all fail. There are lots of great churches already. This didn’t convince him. He actually laid out a compelling vision for church planting and convinced me that there is a place for it in today’s church world.

So now all of the sudden I am excited about new churches carving out space for people who are unchurched, but I work at a large, established, multi-site church. I think about joining a church plant for the next couple of years, but this is not God’s plan for me. He put me here for very specific reasons.

Churches need a boost

Fast forward to Summer 2010. My new best friend who came on staff a year before, Cleve, tells me about this idea he has. Boom! This is it. This is a way for me to help church plants and churches that need that extra boost to get over the hump in their communications strategy.

I have the skills and experience to help these churches establish themselves. I have 8 years of experience learning how to be resourceful with church-sized budgets. I have a degree in broadcasting. I can help these pastors in a way that they don’t have time for, but can help legitimize them in the eyes of outsiders. I can help them pastor and not spend time trying to put together a video or troubleshoot a technology problem. I can help advance God’s Kingdom in another place than just Grayslake, IL.

Give back while staying in your community

Creative Missions is my way to give back to a community of churches without leaving the community God has placed me in. It’s a way for me to give back what God has given to me. This is why I am excited for Creative Missions.

In what ways has God gifted you? In what ways can you give back to God’s Kingdom? How can you help this idea grow?
