Sparrow, an alternative mail client on OS X, has arrived on the iPhone.
Jordan Golson wrote a great article about it over at MacRumors.com. Summing up, he says the following:
The app is missing some features considered essential to any email app. By far the most important is push notifications. Sparrow has a special page explaining why the app doesn’t have push, along with a notification list where users can sign up to receive an email if push notifications are added to the app. Also missing is support for POP email accounts — Sparrow only works with IMAP accounts like Gmail, iCloud, AOL, or any custom IMAP account.
However, I have discovered a solution to this essential feature. It is pretty straight forward and can be completed in 4 easy steps.
- Install Boxcar,
- Create your Boxcar account or sign in.
- Add a service, “Email Account.”
- In the settings of the service “Email Account” on the iPhone application, choose “Opens,” then select “Sparrow.”
Now, forward your emails to the email address provided by Boxcar. (If you are on Gmail, you’ll receive a verification email with a code that you will find on the Boxcar iPhone application.)
