I have a lot of “icebreaker”-style questions I normally fall back on when meeting new folks, but one in particular is always especially fascinating to me:
“If you could do ANYTHING in the world for a living, what would that be?”
There’s something about that question that just lights a fire under someone; it’s an instant shortcut to childhood where every dream was attainable and success was measured by fulfillment and fun (rather than a paycheck and health insurance). The thing is, God has designed each of us to do something, and that “something” is very rarely the thing we expect it to be.
Check out this brief clip from Steven Spielberg as he discusses how he discovered what he was created to do… I like what he says near the end: Our calling is normally more of a small, steady whisper than an obvious shouting voice.
What’s your dream job (secret or not)? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Let us know in the comments below.
(So what’s mine? When I was little, it was definitely being an astronaut. Now that I’m grown up, I have several actually… the one I get to do is working with church communications. My “secret” one is to own a used bookstore/coffee/soda shop!)
